SHILLONG, April 3: With investigation into the gruesome decapitation case still under way, police have now revealed that the victim, Omega Myrthong, was first abducted and subsequently killed.
According to a statement here, it was also informed by police that four persons so far have been arrested in this connection.
Myrthong, who hailed from Mawlaingut village, had gone missing since February 26, following which a missing case was lodged at Lumdiengjri Police Station.
A search was subsequently launched during which a decomposed head, suspected to be of the missing person, was recovered from the bank of Umiam Lake on March 7.
A day later, the victim’s right and left arms were recovered from separate locations around Umiam Lake, which were in a decomposed state.
Later, the half-buried torso was also recovered from around the area.
An autopsy was also conducted whilst seized exhibits were sent to FSL Shillong and CFSL Kolkata for examination.
In the latest development, the accused were identified and three persons were arrested on April 1, which was followed by another’s arrest on April 2.
According to the police, the victim was part of a brawl which had taken place between two groups on February 26 after consuming alcohol.
When Myrthong was on his way home alone, he was abducted and killed at Pomlum viewpoint and his body was chopped on the bank of Umiam Lake.
The vehicle (Bolero pick-up) which was used for abduction and the clothes of the victim were recovered on Monday.
“Investigation is on to complete the case and a charge sheet will be filed soon,” police said.
