Revenge attack by estranged lover of woman kills her husband, brother-in-law in Chhattisgarh

Shillong, April 5: A revenge attack by an ex-lover of a woman killed her husband and his brother in Kawardha district of Chhattisgarh’s Chamari village.

A well planned attack was executed by planting explosives fitted in a home theater that the accused gifted to his ex on her marriage. Five others were left critically injured.

Manisha Thakur, the additional superintendent of police, said that a man named Sarju was upset that his ex-girlfriend getting married. He gave her a home theatre system that had bombs hidden within.

A day after his wedding, the victim, 22-year-old Hemendra Meravi, was unwrapping the presents when he discovered a home theatre inside a “nameless present” box, according to the police.

“As soon as Meravi attempted to plug the music system into an electrical socket and turn it on, an explosion happened, instantly killing him” the police said.

Meravi’s brother, who was also there, also had burns and also died during the treatment. The injured were taken urgently to a local hospital where they are receiving treatment.

According to reports, those hurt in the incident are in stable condition. A team of forensic specialists has been contacted for an investigation, according to ASP Thakur.
