Communal tension in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur, several vehicles torched

Shillong, April 10: Members of two communities engaged in stone-throwing, setting vehicles on fire, and other violence in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur on Sunday evening.

 

The incident took place in Shastri Nagar area which is under the jurisdiction of Kadma police station. The police claims that the situation is now under control and a few people have been detained.

Violence broke out in the Shastri Nagar area over some issue. Two groups from different communities started throwing stones at each other causing major law and order issue in the area.

 

Jamshedpur deputy commissioner Vijaya Jadhav said that peace should be maintained as police were now talking to both the community leaders. “People should not trust rumours, and if they come across any such thing, they should inform the authorities”.

 

“We have control over the situation. People have been asked to return to their homes and not indulge in any anti-social activity. The force is present throughout the area. RAF company has also been deployed” said Jamshedpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar.

To preserve peace and order, the authorities have enforced restrictions under Section 144. Internet services have also been suspended till further orders.
