Govt on job to streamline edn sector: Minister

SHILLONG, April 13: Minister in-charge Education, Rakkam A. Sangma on Thursday asserted that the state government will not compromise on the quality of education in the state and will do what it takes to streamline the sector and push the state to become one of the best in education.
“We will not compromise on any issues for the interest of the state, especially the quality of education, as the state has the potential to be the best. We want to see our children getting the best education,” Sangma said.
Admitting that the education sector lacks in many spheres, he said that all out efforts are on to streamline the system and “slowly but surely things will fall into place”.
When pointed out that the state is witnessing mushrooming of private schools without adequate students or teachers, dilapidated condition of government school infrastructure and the growing number of 50,000 plus teachers, Sangma said that the department is aware of the challenges and Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has also taken the issue on a priority basis to get to the roots and clear things, one at a time.
