Shillong, April 23: Amritpal Singh, a Khalistani separatist who had been absconding since March 18, was arrested in Moga of Punjab after he surrendered before the police.

Eight of his associates, including Papalpreet Singh, are already being detained in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail as a result of the National Security Act (NSA), and he will be transferred there.

Before being arrested, Amritpal Singh preached at a gurdwara in the Moga district village of Rode. As soon as he arrived at the gurdwara on Saturday night, he himself notified the police.

Jasveer Singh Rode, Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale’s nephew, assisted in Amritpal Singh’s surrender. In Rode, the hometown of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who was slain during Operation Blue Star, Amritpal Singh gave himself up.

Rode claimed, “Amritpal Singh came to the Rodewal Gurudwara on Saturday night. He himself informed the police about his presence and that he would surrender this morning at 7 am”.

Police said that Amritpal Singh was an NSA subject and has been flown to Dibrugarh.
