SHILLONG: The Supreme Court has directed the East Khasi Hills SP to depute an officer of the rank of DSP who may accompany two CMJ university officials to the university headquarters and allow them to make photo copy of the relevant documents required to be produced before the court.

The directive came from the apex court after the court had asked the petitioner CMJ Foundation to place the instrument before the court by which Chandra Mohan Jha was appointed as the chancellor of the university.

Jha’s lawyer, however, submitted before the court that the record was under custody of the State police.

The case has bee again listed for August 22 and the court has also asked the counsel of the Governor to produce the original record containing the correspondence in relation to the appointment of the chancellor.

The State CID cracked down on  the university after the former Governor RS Mooshahary lodged an FIR in the capacity of the Visitor of the university for the alleged irregularities in the functioning of the university.  Though many officials of the university either surrendered or were arrested but Jha is still at large.
