Assam Club pays tributes to HP Barooah

SHILLONG: Assam Club of Laban has paid rich tributes to the doyen of Assam’s tea industry Hemendra Prasad Barooah, who passed away on July 31 in Bangkok. He was 87.

In a meeting held on Wednesday on the Club premises, several speakers spoke about Barooah’s contributions not only to the tea industry but also to the cultural field.

Senior citizen of Shillong Dhayan Sharma spoke on the life of Barooah. The meeting was presided over by Bolen Hazarika.

Interestingly, the hall of Assam Club is named after the father of HP Barooah -Shiva Prasad Barooah.

Both the father-son duo had contributed a lot for the development of Assam Club.

Just before his death, HP Barooah had given an assurance to rebuild the club building.

Barooah is survived by two daughters. He was predeceased by his wife and son earlier.
