Shillong, May 19: Government of Kerala has suspended Inspector General P Vijayan who is an IPS rank officer for allegedly leaking information regarding the transportation of accused of Elathur train arson from Tarnagiri in Maharashtra to Kerala.

The suspension order states that the decision was made based on a report provided by ADGP Law and Order, MR Ajith Kumar, which claimed the disclosure of the accused person’s travel plans was a major security lapse.

The ruling also stated that Vijayan, an officer with the rank of Inspector General, and SI Manoj Kumar K, who was not a member of the team looking into the railway fire case, had gotten in touch with the officers transporting the defendant to Kozhikode by car.

A thorough examination into its personnel based on the ADGP report, it continued, was required because the ATS division of the police is expected to operate with greater caution.
