SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep People Social Organisation (HPSO), West Khasi Hills have expressed their concern over the lack of knowledge and information on various schemes disseminated by the State government to the people, especially the rural populace.

According to them, people living in the far-flung areas of the district are still unaware of the various schemes and initiatives carried out by the government and stated that this deficient information dissemination on the part of the government is because of a lackadaisical attitude towards reaching out to the people at the grass root level.

In a letter issued here on Tuesday, President of the organization Wanteibok Lyngdoh said that if advertisement or information is made available to the public, it is mostly circulated in English language, a language the rural populace is not well-versed with.

“If the Government through its various departments is to inform about any scheme, it should do so in Khasi, the local language understood by all and it should also see that the information reaches every village of the district to ensure that no household is left in the dark,” Lyngdoh said.
