SHILLONG, May 22: The International Day for Biological Diversity 2023 was celebrated by the Meghalaya Biodiversity Board on the theme ‘From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity’ at U Soso Tham Auditorium here on Monday.
Chief Secretary DP Wahlang was the chief guest of the occasion.
In his address, the Chief Secretary stressed that it is the responsibility of all human beings to protect biodiversity.
Wahlang also handed over the Best Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) Award 2023 to Umtngam BMC, under Bhoirymbong C&RD Block, Ri-Bhoi, and the State-level Best Biodiversity Conservation Award to Tyngshainlang Dewkhaid, Conservationist from Phlangwanbroi, Mawsynram, East Khasi Hills.
The chief guest along with East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah, Commissioner and Secretary, Forest and Environment-cum-Chairman, Meghalaya Biodiversity Board, SM A Razi, PCCF&HOFF RS Gill, and PCCF and Chief Wildlife Warden SM Sahai released posters on biodiversity of Meghalaya, pamphlets on the biodiversity heritage sites during the occasion and distributed prizes among the winners of the Quiz and photography competitions that were conducted as part of the celebrations.
