SHILLONG: An early goal by Founder Lynshing helped Nongkrem enforce an upset draw against Boys Sports Coy in their First Division match at the JN Sports Complex, Polo, on Wednesday.
Despite Boys Sports being favourits, they were given a harrowing time by the spirited Nongkrem side as the latter came close to scoring on a number of occasions.
Founder Lynshing’s third minute goal laid the platform for what was eventually an exciting game between the two teams, although Nongkrem were unable to maintain their one-goal lead at the end of full time.
Boys Sports, however, came back hard in the first half after conceding the lead, with Naoba Meetei sending a ball past Nongkrem’s keeper.
The drawn result places Boys Sports, who have only two remaining matches against Smit and Imson, in a tight situation and a win will be necessary if they want to finish second in the table.
Earlier, in the Second Division match, Laban defeated Nongumlong 1-0 thanks to a timely 48th minute goal by Readytone Nongbri.
Friday’s First Division match see Nongkseh face Sohryngkham at 1pm at the JN Sports Complex, while Umphrup will play Shillong United at 4pm at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Mawpat will play against Laitumkhrah at 4pm at Ground III, Polo.
