SHILLONG, May 27: Members of the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) on Saturday shouted slogans in front of South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai, condemning the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance’s stance on the issue of job reservation policy.
Carrying placards, the protesters also met with Shullai later and asked him to back the demand for review of the job reservation policy.
Shullai was also urged to have talks with the government and highlight the need for the review of the job reservation policy.
It may be mentioned that the members of VPP plan to hold similar demonstrations outside the residences of the legislators from Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills.
Only a day ago, protesters, numbering around 20, had gathered outside the residence of Cabinet Minister and UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh at Lumkshaid, Lower Mawprem, and held a demonstration while questioning his silence on the demand for a review of the job reservation policy.
The protesters had carried placards with writings like Ngi jied ia phi ban long Khla ym ban long shrieh (We elect leaders to behave like tigers and not like monkeys) and Phi dei u nongialam ka People’s Rally Against Corruption (PRAC), mynta phi dung kylla ia ngi bad pruk bad prak (You were the leader of PRAC, now you are stabbing us).
Similar protests have been reported outside the residences of MLAs in different constituencies, including Pynursla, Mylliem, Nongstoin, Amlarem, and Mawsynram.
