NONGSTOIN, June 1: Several groups from Nongstoin on Thursday intervened in the transfer of the remaining medical equipment from the 50-Bedded Maternity & Child Hospital (MCH) in Nongstoin to Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital in South West Khasi Hills.
The groups, while airing their dissatisfaction, said that despite opposition from the residents, the department continues to remove the remaining materials from the hospital.
After the groups called for the unloading of all the medical equipment, District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), Dr. SA Lyngdoh, arrived at the scene to discuss the issue.
She later agreed to call off the transfer.
Speaking to media persons, the DM&HO said the transfer was stalled and she had informed the Directorate over the current situation.
Lyngdoh informed the department had received an order from the Mission Director of NHM Meghalaya to proceed with the transfer of equipment to the Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital.
She also said that the transfer was made since the human resources are already in place for the hospital in Mawkyrwat to start functioning whereas the MCH at Nongstoin is yet to receive sanction for manpower and the building is yet to be inaugurated.
