SHILLONG, June 5: Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Monday said the department is likely to float the tender for the Rs 140-crore Shillong Ropeway Project by August. The project is being funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
“Hopefully, we will be able to start construction by December. It will take the government two years to complete the project,” Lyngdoh said while adding that he had recently visited Switzerland to facilitate the start of the ropeway project.
He said the purpose behind his visit was to ensure that the project is based on European standards since Switzerland has similar climatic conditions and topographic features.
According to him, this project is going to be the largest cable project in the Northeast.
“We are expecting a heavy footfall of tourists and tourism to emerge as the single biggest employment avenue for the people of Meghalaya,” Lyngdoh said.
