SHILLONG, June 8: Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma on Thursday said the concept, design and objective of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 are yet to be met, but its impact is felt across the globe.
Speaking at the two-day workshop titled “NEP 2020: Interpretation and Implementation at School Level”, he said the programme is just the beginning of a very tedious task that lies ahead.
“We should prepare our students well. Hence, as teachers, we have to improve ourselves and inspire each other. Teachers and policymakers should be open-minded, face challenges bravely, give the best knowledge to our students and make Meghalaya the education hub of Northeast,” he said.
He added, “We should prepare our stage so as to make it better for future generations. Let’s not be in an equilibrium stage but strive to learn more so that we can give more.”
Sangma said he expects to get advice and support from teachers to help the students learn better through various government initiatives.
Advisor to the Department of Education, HM Shangpliang was confident the NEP will bring in a good change.
He remarked that teachers and headmasters understand the need for a change in their schools as they know their institutions the best and therefore, it is relevant for them to understand their strengths.
“NEP 2020 is a must in order to bring a brighter future for the students,” Shangpliang said.
He also spoke on the issues of school dropouts, vocational skills and better infrastructure.
Freelance Social Science Researcher, Fr (Dr) Paul Pudussery said NEP 2020 provides a comprehensive framework which will give a new paradigm of creative imagination among students. He said it aims at having a curriculum which will focus on children’s overall development.
NEP 2020 acts as a major step in making India a global knowledge centre. NEP 2020 is the right step for structuring global value, he added.
The programme was organised by the Department of Education (PG) and Department of Sociology, Synod College, Shillong in collaboration with Directorate of School Education and Literacy.
