Shillong, June 15: The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), under the leadership of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, granted approval for the procurement of Predator drones from the United States of America.

This significant acquisition proposal will now undergo a prescribed procedure before seeking clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Security.

Predator drones, manufactured by General Atomics in the US, have emerged as highly effective weapons systems in combating terrorist groups throughout the American war on terror, targeting both the Taliban and ISIS militants. Equipped with strike missiles, these high-altitude long-endurance drones possess remarkable precision, enabling them to eliminate enemy targets with utmost accuracy.

The acquired drones will serve a dual purpose of conducting long-range surveillance activities along the nation’s borders and maritime regions. With the Indian Navy leading the procurement efforts, 15 drones are set to be allocated to bolster the maritime force’s surveillance operations within its designated area of responsibility.
