SHILLONG, June 19: After facing a setback in the KHADC at the hands of their political ally — NPP — the UDP leadership is set to meet NPP supremo and Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma to understand why the Metbah Lyngdoh-led party had been “backstabbed” by their MDA partner.
The UDP chief said the party would seek clarification from the CM on why his party moved the no-confidence motion against Titosstarwell Chyne.
Lyngdoh said they were unsure of the motive behind moving the no-trust motion since the mover of the motion (NPP’s Bajop Pyngrope) did not say much and ended his speech in a few minutes.
Lyngdoh also wanted to know the “arrangement” between the NPP and Congress in forging the new alliance despite the latter being the main opposition in the Assembly.
“The executive committee led by the UDP functioning smoothly for the past four years and there was nothing that would have led to the no-trust motion. We cannot understand what was going through their minds when they brought the motion,” the UDP president said.
He, however, was confident that Monday’s political developments in the KHADC would not have any bearing on the MDA equation or the relationship between the NPP and the UDP at any level.
