SHILLONG, June 21: NPP national president and Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday distanced himself and his party from the political developments in the KHADC by stating that the government does not interfere into the affairs of the district councils.
The CM’s statement comes at a time when the UDP, miffed with its ouster seat of power in the KHADC by a combined team of NPP and Congress, has decided to meet Sangma to seek answers on the “betrayal”.
Reminding that this was a development in the KHADC, the CM said, “We have always maintained from the government side that matters related to the autonomous district councils are their internal affair and the state government does not intervene.”
On UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh expressing displeasure over the developments, Sangma said, “The situation was such this kind of steps had to be taken.”
