NEW DELHI, June 24: Chief Minister and NPP national president, Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday urged the Centre to take necessary measures to restore normalcy in Manipur and ensure the safe return of those who have fled the strife-torn state.
He made the appeal at an all-party meeting called by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the concerning situation in Manipur.
Eighteen political parties including the BJP and four MPs from the northeast and two chief ministers from the region attended the meeting.
During the meeting, various political parties, including the NPP, expressed their concerns regarding the prevailing conditions in Manipur.
“NPP stressed on the need for a ‘healing touch’ where state and centrral govts, political parties, religious organisations reach out to every section of society to appeal for peace and unity in Manipur,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Stringent action should be taken against any armed groups involved in violence to bring them under control,” the chief minister said.
Sangma said one of the primary concerns raised by the political party was the need for adequate relief materials for the affected people.
“We have urged the Government of India to ensure that relief materials and other essential commodities are supplied in a sufficient and smooth manner to all the locations and more importantly to the relief camps,” he added.
Sangma also supported the demand of many parties that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should visit the affected state.
