NONGPOH: Aggrieved over the adamant attitude of the State Government in appointing the DSC-passed candidate in various posts in Ri Bhoi District, the District Selection Committee passed candidates along with the KSU, North Khasi Hills District unit met newly-appointed Deputy Commissioner of the district, Pooja Pandey, and placed a demand for immediate termination of all employees appointed through ‘backdoor channels’ and also for extending the validity of the DSC-passed candidate by another 18 months.

During the meeting, the DSC-passed candidates led by Association president B Sweetly along with the KSU district president, F Kharkamni, and others, submitted a memorandum which mentioned that their demands should be addressed within one week, failing which they threatened to resort to fresh rounds of agitation in the district.

The candidates informed that they had sought for and obtained information that as many as 36 persons were appointed in various government departments in the district through backdoor appointments since no interview or call for advertisement was issued against those posts.

The Association also observed that some appointments were made on compassionate grounds in 2011-12 in some departments which was a violation of rules since the 4th Pay Commission of Meghalaya has abolished the policy of appointment on compassionate grounds.
