TURA, July 4: TMC leader Richard Marak, on Tuesday has raised concern over rising crimes against women in the state and urged the government to take immediate action to ensure that women are safe and secure in their communities.
“We urge the government to allocate more resources towards strengthening the criminal justice system, to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice and that survivors receive timely support. The government should also work with civil society organisations and stakeholders to create an in-depth and sustainable plan of action to address such issues. It is crucial to hold the government accountable for ensuring the safety and security of women in the state,” Marak added.
Meanwhile, Marak also called on the government to increase the number of police personnel and improve their training in handling cases relating to crime against women and also provide the victims with medical care, legal aid, counselling services, awareness campaigns et.al.
Increasing prices
Meanwhile, Marak questioned the government’s idea to address the alarming rise in prices of essential commodities.
The recent increase in the price of rice which is a staple food for all has left many people wondering, how will they be able to afford it.
The increase in price from Rs 32 per kg to Rs 40 per kg for ordinary rice and from Rs 40 per kg to Rs 50 per kg for parimal rice is putting a significant strain on many households. He also wanted to know what the government’s move is in reducing the price of rice.
