Meta’s Instagram ‘Threads’ launch causes surge in online searches

Shillong, July 6: The recent launch of Meta’s Twitter competitor, Threads, on Instagram has led to a significant surge in online searches for the term ‘Threads’ in the past 24 hours. According to a report by Digital Funnel, searches for the term ‘Threads’ have skyrocketed by an astonishing 3,233 percent, even in regions like the European Union (EU) where the app is currently unavailable.

Additionally, searches for the term ‘Thread App’ have seen an exponential increase of 4,900 percent during the same timeframe. The countries showing the most interest in the app through online searches are China, Taiwan, Turkey, Brazil, and Japan.

Interestingly, despite the unavailability of the app in the EU, users are undeterred, as searches for ‘Threads VPN’ have surged by a massive 6,566 percent, indicating a strong desire to access the app within the region.

Meta’s Threads, a Twitter rival, has experienced remarkable success, amassing over 1 crore users within a mere seven-hour span. Other Twitter competitors have also witnessed a surge in searches, with Jack Dorsey-backed Bluesky experiencing an influx of searches by around 4,900 percent, while Mastodon saw a notable increase of 733 percent.

The report further reveals that searches for topics such as ‘How to Delete Twitter Account,’ ‘Twitter Dead,’ and ‘Twitter Killer’ have all risen by over 250 percent, indicating a growing interest in alternative platforms.

Threads is currently generating a whirlwind of excitement among social media enthusiasts, with prominent celebrities like Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, and Diljit Dosanjh, as well as popular creators such as Niharika NM, RJ Abhinav, RJ Sukriti, and Kiran Dutta (@yourbongguy), already engaging in discussions on the platform.
