DIG police Vijayakumar shoots himself dead in Coimbatore

Shillong, July 7: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Coimbatore range), Vijayakumar IPS, took his own life today by shooting himself with a pistol borrowed from an on-duty gunman at his official residence in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The motive behind the suicide remains unknown.

The distressing incident occurred at approximately 6:15 am this morning at Vijayakumar’s residence in Red Fields, near Race Course. Sources close to the matter revealed that Vijayakumar had been battling severe depression and had been struggling with sleep deprivation. He had been receiving counseling, and his family had recently been brought to Coimbatore from Chennai to provide support.

According to the police, Vijayakumar used a service pistol borrowed from a gunman stationed at his residence to carry out the tragic act. Security personnel immediately informed senior officers upon discovering the incident, and the body was subsequently transferred to Coimbatore Medical College hospital for post-mortem examination.
