SHILLONG, July 8: Two days after Chief Minister Conrad Sangma candidly admitted that the state government is not capable of stopping the illegal coal mining, the TMC has strongly objected to the CM’s statement and flagged “the manner in which cases are dealt and illegalities are given a long rope” in the state.
“When we talk about lawlessness in Meghalaya, I think the High Court of Meghalaya has rightly summarised the emerging situation in the state where the state itself has been the torch-bearer of lawlessness,” TMC state vice president George B Lyngdoh said on Saturday.
Recalling that the chief minister has acknowledged that it is beyond his control to stop illegalities in the state, the TMC leader said, “…such a helpless statement coming from the head of the state clearly shows that the government has surrendered itself and has expressed its unwillingness to show its grit and firmness when it comes to upholding the law in the state.”

(Contd from P-1) Talking about the issue of Harijan Colony, Lyngdoh said that the area still has barricades and public are disallowed to pass through the lane Iew Mawlog. “…the government still shows insecurity and the inability to bridge the gap between communities,” he added.
He pointed out that the matter has spilled from the MDA’s first tenure to second.
