Shillong, July 9: As heavy rain continued to lash several parts of Delhi, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has directed all officers and ministers to cancel their Sunday holiday and be on the ground to inspect the affected areas.
As per India Today, Delhi’s mayor and ministers have been instructed to conduct inspections, and Atishi, the Public Works Department (PWD) minister, will visit waterlogged areas today, including the Tilak Bridge area at noon.
Kejriwal took to Twitter to inform that Delhi received 126mm of rainfall the previous day, with 15% of the total monsoon season’s rainfall occurring within a span of just 12 hours. He acknowledged the difficulties faced by people due to waterlogging and emphasized that all ministers and the mayor would personally inspect problem areas. He also issued instructions to officials from all departments to be present on the ground and cancel their Sunday holiday.
The heavy rain in Delhi over the past two days has wreaked havoc in residential and commercial areas, causing flooded roads and overflowing drains, resulting in extensive waterlogging and severely impacting traffic flow for hours.
