By Our Reporter SHILLONG, July 9: The State BJP is yet to zero in on its candidate for Lok Sabha polls, although the party’s central leadership has begun scanning for the potential candidates. “The party has a committee which is already looking into that, and the central leadership has also started moving and the state leadership is also following the same lines as we have just few months left for the elections,” said BJP spokesperson M Kharkrang when asked. Kharkrang stated that there is no candidate in the radar of the State BJP to fill in the shoes of the Lok Sabha election candidate. Asked if there is a possibility that he could contest for the Shillong MP seat, the former top cop said, “I have not projected myself as the candidate but I leave it to the wisdom of the party. They will be in a better position to name the candidate.” Former top police official M Kharkrang had contested the 2023 general elections from North Shillong constituency representing the saffron party. He, however, lost to UDP’s Adelbert Nongrum. It may be recalled that there are two Lok Sabha seats in the state —Tura and Shillong. While the prestigious Tura seat is the bastion of the NPP with Agatha Sangma as its current MP, Congress’s Vincent Pala has been the three-time winner of the Shillong MP seat.
