TURA: An awareness programme on women’s empowerment through financial inclusion was held on Thursday at the recently inaugurated multi-facility centre, Dalu C&RD Block Campus, Dalu. The sensitization programme was held to enlighten the beneficiaries on the concept of financial inclusion and capacity building.

A total of 2,014 beneficiaries have opted for various sustainable and economically viable activities like banana plantation, piggery, poultry and tailoring. The State Government has released the seed money of Rs 5000 to each beneficiary through different banks.

Chief guest at the programme, Parliamentary Secretary Roful S Marak recalled the hardships faced by his own mother being the sole earning member in the family saying that the kindness of a benefactor helped her mother to start a small business which helped her to provide a life of dignity to her children.

He added that the women today are fortunate as the State Government is extending financial assistance to help them to be economically empowered. He urged the women to use the seed money for what it is meant.

Among others who spoke at the programme were H Ch Marak, Horticulture Development Officer, Dr FD Arengh, AH & VO and branch managers of State Bank of India and Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank, Barengapara.
