 SHILLONG: St Anthony’s College has been roped in by the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s “Catch Them Young” programme projected for schools and colleges, which was launched in the State in 2010.

At an austere function held on Saturday, a concrete practice pitch with box nets was inaugurated within the college premises in the presence of Br Albert L Dkhar, Principal and Fr J Joseph V, Principal and Teacher in-charge of cricket, including cricketers of the college.

The collaboration will see the deputising of coaches, trainers and other support staff of the Cricket Association from time to time. In addition, the college will be able to use of facilities at Polo and receive support with cricket gear.

An interactive session was also held at the college auditorium.

During the function, the Br Albert L Dkhar stated that the college is committed to give equal impetus to sports and games along with studies.

 MCA secretary Naba Bhattacharjee also informed that PJ Lamare, who was recently sponsored by the association to undergo the Curators Course at Punjab Cricket Association – Mohali and the National Cricket Academy, Bangalore, has successfully passed the course.

It was also learnt that the MCA has sponsored G Kharkongor, Director, and B Dasgupta, Coach, of the Shillong Cricket Academy to attend a workshop at the NCA.
