SHILLONG, July 19: As many as six aspirants have applied for the NPP ticket to contest next year’s Lok Sabha election from Shillong Parliamentary seat.
“All the six who want to contest from the NPP are good candidates,” party spokesperson Bajop Pyngrope said on Wednesday.
He also refused to confirm speculations that former Cabinet minister, James PK Sangma will contest the Lok Sabha polls from Tura seat.
Pyngrope said sitting MP Agatha K. Sangma will seek re-election from Tura. “I am not aware of any other development,” he added.
The NPP spokesperson also said that the party has held several rounds of internal meetings to discuss both the Lok Sabha polls and the KHADC and JHADC elections which are also scheduled next year.
He said the party will select the best candidates to ensure it wins all the polls.
It may be mentioned that the Northeast sends as many as 25 seats to the Lok Sabha which includes two seats from Meghalaya — Shillong and Tura.
