Textile Dept mulls brand ambassador to promote local crafts

SHILLONG, July 21: Textiles Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Friday informed that the department has decided to have an ambassador for promotion of textiles in the State.
While addressing at the Ateliers Meghalaya Awards 2023, Lyngdoh also stated that they have also decided to have a signature outfit or a shawl which would help the department push the domain of tourism in the state.
He also observed that it is with a sense of envy to watch the Prime Minister of the country wearing the gamcha and this is the same gamcha which is being spotted at major airports in the country.
“Now, why not give that similar space taking into account how good are our craftsmanship. Therefore, I salute to the entire various craftsmen, weavers and potters whom we have been acknowledging for the first time in a big way,” he said.
Stating that the Delhi store is being considered as one of the best in the country, Textiles Minister assured that he will leave no stone unturned to change the narrative of Meghalaya which is superbly abundant in everything.
“We just want to make sure that we begin to achieve the success stories considering the talents that we have,” he added.
