Police bust bike lifters’ gang, recover stolen motorcycles

SHILLONG, July 26: An interconnected network of bike lifters was busted and several stolen motorcycles were recovered by the police in different operations.
A motorcycle (ML-05-P-6045) was stolen from from Umlympung, 12 mile, Mylliem, and a case in this regard was filed on complaint lodged with Mawngap police station on July 15, the police said.
Based on source information, police laid a trap and arrested three persons from Amlarem, West Jaintia Hills, while the stolen bike was recovered from Padu village in Amlarem.
Police learned that another three persons involved in the case were from Pynursla; they were subsequently arrested.
During interrogation of the accused, a motorcycle (a Pulsar 150) was recovered from Amlarem and another (Pulsar 220 without registration plate) was recovered from Pynursla, East Khasi Hills. Police ascertained that the bikes were stolen from Amlarem and Pynursla.
Later on July 25, another complaint was received at Laban Police Station that a Pulsar 150 bike (ML 05-V-0993) was stolen from Lower Harisabha, Laban.
On a tip off, one accused was arrested from Shallang in West Khasi Hills and the stolen bike was recovered from there.
Meanwhile, police also seized a car (AS 01 DH 2009) used in the crime.
Police, in a statement, said that some more accused involved in the thefts are on the run and a manhunt has been launched to nab them.
