SHILLONG, July 28: Concerned about the violence and turmoil looming in the neighbouring state, the Archdiocese of Shillong has resolved to join hands with the Catholic Association of Shillong in the silent peace rally scheduled for August 5 to condemn the inhumane treatment of women and pray for return of peace in strife-torn Manipur.
The silent peace rally will commence at 10 am from Madan Iewrynghep, Laitumkhrah, to Don Bosco Stadium.
In a statement here on Friday, Archbishop of Shillong Victor Lyngdoh said that in the past months, they have prayed for peace in the world and in a very special way for Manipur.
“Let us continue to pray for this intention so that peace may prevail in the neighbouring state, which has seen injustices to women, burning of houses, destruction of places of worship, exodus of people and death,” he said.
Maintaining that they stand for respect and dignity of human beings in a civilised society, the Archbishop requested all the bishops, heads of parishes and institutions to encourage mature citizens to attend the rally.
