SHILLONG, July 28: The state government has notified the constitution of a search committee to recommend names of the new members of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW).
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said that the Commissioner and Secretary of the Social Welfare department will be the Chairperson of the notified panel while members will include Secretary of Personnel and AR department, Deputy IGP (CID) and DHS (MCH) while Principals of Lady Keane College and Women’s College besides Head of Department of MLCU are the non-official members.
The search committee will identify eminent women personalities who have served the cause of women and have sufficient knowledge and experience in dealing with issues concerning them.
Maintaining that the notification is transparent, the minister exuded confidence in the process of selection to not be politicised.
It may be recalled that Phidalia Toi, former Chairperson of the Commission, was removed from her post unceremoniously for allegedly violating rules.
