Shillong, August 2: Chetan Singh, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable responsible for the tragic incident where four people were shot dead on a moving Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express train, is now under the custody of the Government Railway Police. The shocking incident near Palghar has drawn attention and has been referred to as a “hate crime” by some opposition leaders.

Speaking to India Today, Chetan Singh’s family in Mathura described him as “tensed” and “under pressure.” His sister-in-law mentioned his weak health, ongoing treatment, and medication for a detected blood clot in his brain. However, she clarified that there were no apparent anger issues.

Chetan Singh joined the RPF after his father’s passing, and he had a good relationship with his family and children. His family asserted that he never engaged in disputes and had been working with the railways for 14 years without any conflicts with colleagues.

According to RPF constable Amay Ghanashyam Acharya, who was on the train during the incident, Chetan Singh had expressed feeling unwell and was moved to another coach with an empty berth for rest. The investigation into the motive behind the shootings continues as authorities try to understand the events leading up to this tragic act.
