Three dead as truck falls into gorge

SHILLONG, Aug 7: Three persons lost their lives while two others sustained injuries when a truck they were travelling on fell into a gorge in East Khasi Hills district early Monday morning.
Police said the accident occurred when the occupants were transporting a dozen buffaloes from Pynursla to Laitlyngkot in a truck (ML05 G 9528).
Police said the accident occurred when the truck developed a snag at Khoh-yiar near Mawkhap junction on NH-40 and slipped backward falling into a precipice. On reaching the spot, police found the driver Yomiki Kharshandi and another occupant, Bansiew Khongkliam, alive.
Three others — Kyndaiborlang Kurbah, Banpeitlang Marbaniang and Welbokstar Sohlang — died on the spot.
Most of the buffaloes died in the accident, police said.
