SHILLONG, Aug 7: The KSU on Monday urged NEHU Vice Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla to indicate “in clear terms” the university’s stand with regard to implementation of the NEP.
“The university should be clear on whether they are going to continue with the old system or implement the FYUP from this academic session. We have asked the VC to clarify on this issue since many colleges and students are still in the dark on whether the NEP is going to be implemented or not,” KSU assistant education secretary Richest Malngiang said after a meeting with the VC.
He said the students’ body has made it very clear that they are against implementation of the NEP on hybrid mode.
“We insisted that there should be uniformity in the implementation of the NEP.
“We have also urged the university and the state government to provide all necessary support to the colleges which are yet to implement the NEP in order to ensure that the students of these colleges are not affected,” he said. In another development, the KSU Education Cell has petitioned the VC to provide special accommodation for student of Meghalaya pursuing higher studies in Manipur University.
In their petition to Prof Shukla, chairman of the KSU Education Cell, Pynkmenlang Sanmiet said, “Through this missive, the Union would like to bring to your notice the plight of the students from Meghalaya who are currently studying in Manipur University. With the ongoing unrest in Manipur and no de-escalation till date, the students have been impacted significantly.”
“The students from our state are in a tight spot; they are grappling with fear and insecurity and the prospect of returning to the state seems like a daunting task due to sheer psychological trauma. Their future appears bleak and uncertain,” Sanmiet said.
He asked the VC to consider admission of the affected students into NEHU and to also extend all possible help to the aggrieved students.
