Ban imposed on illegal activities to protect River Myntdu

Jowai, August 10: In accordance with the directives issued by the Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya and in compliance with the order of the NGT in O.A N0. 172/2016, the District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills has under Section 144 Cr PC imposed restriction to protect the river Myntdu from being polluted and to prevent illegal activities along the river and on its river bed.

The order prohibits tree felling in the vicinity of River Myntdu. Washing of clothes and vehicles, dumping of spoils and waste material (solid and liquid) along the course of Myntdu River and waste/muck from road construction into Myntdu river is also prohibited.
The order also bans sand mining and stone quarries all along the Myntdu river and on its river bed.
