SHILLONG: In a span of nine days, the East Khasi Hills police has alone registered 21 cases and arrested 22 persons in connection with the various violent incidents committed in various areas soon after the talks between Government and NGOs on Inner Line Permit (ILP) fell flat.

It may be mentioned that cases of arson, torching of vehicles and Government offices have been reported from different parts of the State including the capital city since August 29 when NGOs and Government failed to arrive at any solution over the issue of ILP.

Luckily, no lives were lost in the recent violent incidents.

To ensure peace and calm, police have beefed up security throughout the city and additional forces too have been called in to maintain the overall law and order situation.

Meanwhile police on Saturday morning arrested three persons from Pynthorumkhrah and two persons from Nongmynsong.

The arrested persons were forwarded to court and have been remanded to six days and five days of police custody respectively.

Police filed a case against all the accused under Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order (MMPO) Act.
