Goodwill function for senior citizens held

 SHILLONG: The New Age Welfare Society (NAWS), a welfare organisation based in Jail Road, Shillong, organised a goodwill function for the inmates of Mercy Home (Sisters of Charity of Saints B. Capitanio and V. Gerosa) and the senior citizens of Jail Road in the premises of NAWS, Jail Road, Shillong on Sunday.

According to Sr. Mildred, the Superior In-charge, the Mercy Home was established in the year 1973.

The Home started with very few inmates during the initial years and many inmates left for their heavenly abode from the Mercy Home.

At the moment there are around forty inmates, with a maximum capacity of sixty. The Home normally accepts ladies who have attained the age of sixty and sixty five for gents. Regular check-up is done and the inmates are provided with free medicines.

She further said that the inmates who are brought initially were depressed and sad but now they are very happy.

The goodwill function started with the welcome address by Keshab Chakraborty, Chairman, NAWS. This was followed by a free medical check-up. A cultural programme was organised to entertain the inmates of Mercy Home and the senior citizens of Jail Road.

The inmates of the Mercy Home was facilitated and honoured on the occasion. A 21″ colour TV set, one geyser, forty blankets & towels along with fruits, biscuits and chocolates were given to the inmates of the Mercy Home. A lunch was also organised on the occasion.
