Shillong, August 13: Indore Police has initiated legal action by registering an FIR against the individuals managing the Twitter accounts of senior Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Kamal Nath, and Arun Yadav. The move comes in response to a post that accused the Madhya Pradesh BJP government of corruption.
As per India Today, the complaint, filed by Nimesh Pathak, the convenor of the local BJP’s legal cell, pertained to a fake letter circulated on social media under the name of Gyanendra Awasthi. The letter alleged that contractors in the state were being coerced to pay a 50 percent commission.
The FIR has been lodged not only against Awasthi but also against the handlers of the Twitter accounts associated with Vadra, Nath, and Arun Yadav. The case has been registered at Sanyogitaganj police station, and an investigation into Pathak’s complaint is underway.
The police have invoked sections 420 (cheating) and 469 (forgery with intent to harm reputation) of the Indian Penal Code in response to Pathak’s allegations that the Congress leaders attempted to tarnish the state government’s image and the BJP party’s reputation.
Authorities are presently verifying the authenticity of the respective Twitter handles. The incident stems from posts made on the platform, wherein Vadra, Nath, and Arun Yadav shared claims of corruption and bribery within the Madhya Pradesh government.
While Vadra’s post suggested a union of contractors had written to the Chief Justice of the High Court regarding the release of payments tied to a 50 percent commission, Nath and Arun Yadav echoed similar sentiments in their respective posts.
