Shillong, August 18: Microsoft has announced the upcoming closure of the Xbox 360 Store and Xbox 360 Marketplace in July of next year. The decision was shared by Dave McCarthy, corporate vice president of Xbox player services, who revealed that after July 29, 2024, the ability to acquire new games, DLC, and entertainment content from these platforms will cease.

As per IANS, the Microsoft Movies & TV app will also lose functionality on Xbox 360, rendering TV and movie content unviewable on the console post-July 29, 2024.

In the interim, users can continue to purchase games and downloadable content from these platforms. Importantly, the transition will not affect the ability to play already purchased Xbox 360 game content. Such content will remain accessible not only on Xbox 360 but also on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S devices through backward compatibility.

McCarthy emphasized the evolving landscape since the launch of Xbox 360 in 2005, noting technological advancements and changing player expectations. The company is dedicated to making the Xbox Series X|S the premier gaming destination, both now and in the future.

Post-July 2024, gamers will still be able to enjoy purchased games and engage in multiplayer interactions as long as the publishers continue to support the online servers.

Recently, the Microsoft-owned gaming console brand introduced an enforcement strike system to educate players about enforcement severity, cumulative effects, and the impact on their standing within the gaming community.
