Shillong, August 22: Amidst the recent Pakistan national Seema Haider controversy, a parallel narrative unfolds as another woman from Bangladesh arrives in India seeking her estranged Indian husband, who she alleges abandoned her.
As per IANS, Sonia Akhtar, residing in Noida for the past eight days, asserts that she was married to Saurav Kant Tiwari, a Noida resident, and together they have a son.
Sonia narrates that their union took place in Bangladesh, where Tiwari worked and they fell in love. The couple married following Muslim customs, but their life took a different turn after Sonia conceived. Tiwari, who had converted to Islam, left for India promising to return after fulfilling vital tasks. However, he never returned, and Sonia’s attempts to reach him through his mobile phones proved futile as all his numbers remained unreachable.
Inspired by the Seema Haider incident, Sonia secured a visa to India in her quest for answers. However, upon arrival in Noida, she was detained by the police and placed in a detention center in Sector-62. Despite the efforts of the women’s cell of the Noida Police Commissionerate to mediate between the couple, a resolution was not achieved.
Sonia remains steadfast in her stance, demanding that her husband either accompany her back to Bangladesh or that she will remain with him in India. This story adds a layer of complexity to the evolving discussion around cross-border relationships and their legal implications.
