Shillong, August 23: The planned Brij Mandal Jal Abhishek Yatra by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on August 28 has been denied permission by the Nuh administration.

Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata confirmed the cancellation, citing intelligence inputs and local peace committees’ concerns about the district’s tense situation.

As per IANS, Hindu groups affiliated with the Sarva Hindu Samaj had organized a mahapanchayat in Pondri village, Palwal district, on August 13. During this gathering, they announced the resumption of the Braj Mandal Yatra, previously halted due to communal violence on July 31. The intended route of the Yatra included Nuh’s Nalhar Mahadev Mandir, Ferozepur Jhirka, and Singar in Punhana. However, the Yatra encountered disturbances just 3 km away from the Nalhar temple, resulting in riots in the area.

Despite the administration’s refusal, a VHP leader stated that the organization’s members intend to proceed with the Yatra. The initial clashes after the VHP procession led to the unfortunate loss of six lives, including two home guards and a cleric in Nuh.

Sources suggest that the denial of permission may be influenced by the upcoming G20 meeting scheduled for September 3 in Tauru.
