Shillong: The controversial election of the Sirdar of Raid Shabong on Friday took a new turn on Friday when the Executive Member (EM) in-charge Elaka of the KHADC Lamphrang Blah decided to summon the chairman of the election committee to clarify his stand on the issue.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, the FKJGP’s information secretary (Ri-War circle) E Khonglam said a delegation of his organisation on Friday met Blah in this connection. “Blah has assured that he would ask the chairman of the election committee to appear before him and clarify his stand on the issue,” he said.

The organisation also asked the EM in-charge of Elaka to hold a re-election of the Sirdar of Raid Shabong in response of which, Blah said a decision in this regard would be taken only after his meeting with the chairman of the election committee.

Khonglam also said the EM, in-charge Elaka also urged the FKJGP members to be present on that day.

It may be mentioned that the FKJGP, Ri-War circle had earlier alleged that two non-tribals — Promison Rai and Arun Dey — were allowed to vote in the election for the Sirdar of Raid Shabong. The organisation also alleged that around 50 locals were not allowed to cast their votes.
