SHILLONG, Aug 31: Meghalaya Trinamool Congress president Charles Pyngrope on Thursday said the state should be provided with some space and time to design and deliver on the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Resenting the inference drawn from his recent information conversation with a former principal of St Edmund’s College, he said the reference to the NEP was in no way the view of the institution.
“The former principal said experts are needed to discuss the NEP 2020. This does not imply that he is not in favour of implementing the NEP 2020,” he stated.
Clarifying his perspective on the matter, Pyngrope said, “I looked into the issue because of the multifarious frames of opposition to the NEP (a 65-page document). We need to accord space and time to deliberate and decide on the matter instead of enforcing it without the involvement of the stakeholders.”
Appreciating the NEP for its contents, especially the embracing of rich heritage, he said: “India was once the epicentre of distinguished educational excellence. But any effort to resuscitate the prevailing educational scenario must be accompanied by critical and creative thinking.”
He called for a realistic budget to implement the NEP 2020.
