TURA, Sep 1: Social bodies from Tura including the Senior Citizens Forum, Garo Graduates’ Union (GGU) and the New Tura Development Forum (NTDF) on Friday expressed opposition to the recent appointment of 41 candidates to the posts of MLHP by the National Health Mission.
In their letter of protest to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the local bodies pointed out that no advertisements were circulated to the people of Garo Hills and that the appointment of the 41 candidates was done without any interview.
The organisations also said that all those appointed were only from one section of the community which is unacceptable and bereft of justice.
They further pointed out that all the appointed persons are not conversant with the local language where they are posted.
Asserting that there should be equal distribution of jobs to all sections of the community whether regular or contractual, the organisations said that this procedure has not been followed by the NHM.
The local groups also strongly reacted to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s statement that there was no one qualified from among the Garos and termed it as unacceptable. Warning that the people of Garo Hills would never accept such illegal appointment; the groups demanded that the appointments be revoked and action be taken against the officials responsible for such sham appointment.
