Shillong, Sept 4: The police on Monday arrested a few of Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) members even as two of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySPs) received minor injuries after the protesters had pelted stones and bottles towards the police.
The police had to fire tear gas as the HITO members tried to forcefully march towards the Main Secretariat near the Deputy Commissioner office after returning from the Sadar police station as they were summoned by the police for wearing black uniform which is violation of Section 171 of CrPC.
As per reports, the HITO members had also manhandled the Magistrates who were trying to calm the protesters forcing their way towards the Main Secretariat.
When contacted, East Khasi Hills SP, Sylvester Nongtnger informed that they have arrested a few of the HITO members.
According to him, two of the DySPs and some of the police personnel received minor injuries as the protesters had turned unruly.
“I will be sharing the details later,” Nongtnger said.
Many however questioned the police for throwing a stun grenade at a tea stall at the MUDA parking lot opposite the SBI main branch.
It was seen that all the food items inside the tea stall had spilled into the ground after the police had entered inside to pull out the protesters.
The HITO members had also asked the shop along Khyndailad to shut down  while taking out a procession from SBI Main Branch towards Sadar police station and vice versa.
It may be mentioned that the protesters started shouting slogans to condemn the police.
