TURA, Sep 4: SSA school teachers under the banner of the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) on Monday have once again demanded the government to regularise their services and enhance their salaries.
In their memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma the association maintained that the teachers under the category, who have been serving for the last 21 years, have been deprived and neglected of their rights and provisions as compared to other regular teachers of the state.
Pointing out that SSA is not separate but aligned with RTE, the teachers said that they too should be taken into consideration under the State Education Department and RTE norms of the current State Education Society.  It may be noted that the salaries of the teachers were enhanced from Rs 1500 to Rs 3000 in 2008, to Rs 6,000 in 2010, to Rs 9,900 and Rs 9,200 for upper primary and lower primary teachers respectively in 2013 and Rs 19,044 and Rs 20,493 for lower primary and upper primary teachers in 2017.
