Khimusniang lift Jaintia Hills Super Division football trophy

JOWAI: Khimusniang SC, Jowai, bagged the winners’ trophy in the Super Division League – U Kiang Nangbah Memorial Trophy after beating Sohmynting SC 2-1 in the final on Saturday.

The tournament, played out at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium, was organised by the West Jaintia Hills District Sports Association.

Striker Yoomitree Patweth scored both goals for Khimusniang, in the 57th and 59th minutes.

Sohmynting pulled one back in the 66th minute through Rikal Pyrtuh, but could not find the equaliser.

Earlier, in the 26th minute, Khimusniang missed a chance to take the lead through a penalty by Richainlang Suchiang.

Yuletide Born Langbang and Rikal Pyrtuh were adjudged best player and top scorer of the year in the Super Division.

Ephring Shylla was named best goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, in the final of the First Division – Chatis Kharkongor Memorial Trophy, Chutwakhu SC defeated Loomiongkjam SC in a penalty shoot-out.

In extra time Teilang Chullai put Chutwakhu into the lead, but that was countered by Loomiongkjam’s Raimiki Challam just two minutes later.

With the scores 1-1, a tiebreaker was necessary to separate the two teams and Chutwakhu then prevailed 3-2.

Raimiki Challam was named best player of the first division, with Teilan Chullai earning the award for most goals.

Jharmiki Challam, also of Loomiongkjam, was adjudged best goalie.
