Assam Police arrest two, tension in Langpih

NONGSTOIN: Tension prevails in Langpih after Assam Police arrested two persons on Sunday evening from the area without any reason or provocation.

The arrested duo are Phrangsngi Sangriang (23) of Domtiewsaw Village and Phlestar Syiemlieh (28) of Umiap Village. Sangriang is a member of the HANM’s Langpih unit.

Following the incident, a fear psychosis has gripped the area.

After the recent murder of a Nepali person at Umwali, near Langpih, the residents around the area had formed volunteer groups to keep a vigil in the area during night time. These volunteers conduct night patrolling at Umwali, Umwahsiang, Mokoibari and Lawbah.

On Sunday, Phrangsngi was returning home from Langpih when he was apprehended by these volunteers at Umwahsiang. The volunteers beat him up without and later handed him over to the Assam Police outpost at Langpih.

On the same night, Phlestar was apprehended by the volunteers at Mokoibari near Langpih. He was also handed to Assam Police Outpost at Langpih. Phlestar was in an inebriated state at the time of the incident, sources said.

Sources said that Phrangsngi was taken to Boko Police station on Monday. The whereabouts of Phlestar was not known till the filing of this report.

Meanwhile, Richard Syiemlieh President of the HANM Langpih Circle has demanded the State government to put pressure on Assam government for the immediate release of the duo.
